Contribution in Interventional Cardiology & Cardiac Electrophysiology (India & Abroad)

  • His experience in interventional cardiology over more than one decade about 8000 coronary, peripheral and aortic angiograms, 2900 percutaneous transluminal balloon angioplasties, stenting and atherectomies (both Rotational and Directional) of coronary and peripheral arteries, 825 percutaneous balloon valvotomies (mitral, aortic and pulmonary) and 475 pediatric diagnostic and therapeutic procedures which include device closure of ASD, VSD & PDA (nonsurgical closure of holes in the heart).
  • During his fellowship at the world famous G.B. Pant Hospital in New Delhi (1994-98) and Lahey Hitchcock Medical Center, Burlington, Massachussets, USA (2000), he received training in cardiac electrophysiology (study of disorders of electrical system of the heart). G.B. Pant Hospital is a premier tertiary care University Hospital of North India performing about 400 permanent pacemaker implantations and 500 radiofrequency ablations annually. This has helped him to treat more than 500 patients suffering from such disorders with special pacemakers that treat both abnormally slow and fast heart rates and are very useful in patients with heart failure.
  • He initiated the Interventional Cardiology program at Escorts Heart Institute, Amritsar in 2003 and headed the Division of Interventional Cardiology for nearly five years, performing a plethora of complex catheter-based vascular procedures and device implantations.
  • Currently he is the Executive Director cum Senior Consultant at ACE Heart & Vascular Institute, Mohali and also head the Division of Interventional Cardiology. He is actively into coronary, neuro and peripheral vascular interventions and run a very aggressive primary PCI programme for acute MI in our institute. The unit specializes in performing complex & high-risk interventional cases, balloon valvotomies, device implantations for tachy-bradyarrhythmias and heart failure, and transcatheter closure of ASD, VSD & PDA.
  • He reported the WORLD’S FIRST CASE of a hybrid-procedure: perventricular closure of post-myocardial infarction VSD with OPCAB surgery at The International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery, Boston, June 11-14, 2008.
  • On the Editorial Board of the Indian Heart Journal(Official publication of the CSI) as Editorial Seceratary(1995-1997)
  • His research paper on cardiac pacemaker dealing with advanced battery conserving algorithms was nominated for Prof. D.P. Basu Memorial award at the 53rd annual sessions of CSI at Hyderabad, 2001
  • Delivered a guest lecture on “Automatic mode Switching for atrail tachyarrhythmias” at 54 Annual Session at CSI, 2002.
